#Opinion | When the trajectories of languages get snapped, the accumulated wisdom in those languages, too, gets submerged and continues to survive in severely truncated, irreparable and insensible forms, writes G.N. Devy

#Books | One needs a multidisciplinary exercise to capture a multifaceted India. One’s response has to be strategic, professional & political. In #GNDevy’s view, school curricula have to be plural entities with multiple voices.

'Though the colonial experience can be justifiably held responsible for #India’s disproportionately low contribution to ‘knowledge’ during the last two centuries, focusing on colonialism alone may not yield the complete story of our failure.'

Sri Aurobindian school of philosophy is multi-layered but comprehensive. Its evolution and embracing of new horizons, including branching out, are interesting fields of study. A further fascinating facet is the deployment of poetry in elucidating prophetic or mystical niceties.

Most here succumb to hubris and pose as specialists in order to conceal ontological insecurity. Reading The Mother & Sri Aurobindo's books helps delving into inner recesses and discovering remedial measures. The beauty of exploring own self is eradicating differences with others.

Savitri Era Religion encourages worshipping The Mother & Sri Aurobindo as the one Supreme Divine, so that one is free from outdated beliefs and rituals. Descent of Supramental consciousness is pivotal to Sri Aurobindo's vision and collaborating with it is evolutionary imperative.

The Myth of the Theons: Constructing and Deconstructing the Image of Two European Occultists

P Heehs - Aries, 2024
… One person who discovered the Revue Cosmique in 1904 was Mirra Alfassa, a young Paris-born artist who toward the end of that year met Louis Thémanlys, a friend of her brother, who was in contact with the Theons and a reader of the Revue …… Years later, after she had become the Mother of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, she related some anecdotes about the Theons to students of the Ashram school and to a close disciple. These stories first appeared in print in collections of talks published …

The reputations of Eliezer Mordechai Bimstein and Mary Ware (aka Theon and Madame Theon) as master occultists took shape during their lifetimes in the absence of accurate biographical information. Best known as leaders of the Cosmic Movement, which attracted a number of adherents during the first decade of the twentieth century, they each had an interesting backstory, Bimstein as a worker in the tobacco trade, then co-founder of the Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor, Ware as Mother Superior of a convent, then poet, actress, and lecturer on occult themes. Their teachings, published in the Revue Cosmique and Tradition Cosmique, influenced such people as Louis Thémanlys and Mirra Alfassa, later the Mother of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. Biographical material on Bimstein and Ware, brought to light by recent scholars, has led to a deconstruction of the myth of the Theons but this does not necessarily detract from the interest of their writings.
