On the centenary day — May 30, 2009 — of Uttarpara speech, let all students and teachers of Sri Aurobindo’s school of thought resolve that they would not lose heart on account of current dismal scenario and would work with a renewed sense of mission to ensure that the vision of the great prophet of the 20th century is fulfiled. Undoubtedly, the task is Herculean, the goal is distant and would take a long time to traverse. But let us not forget that even the longest journey begins with the first step. The Integral Yoga by Sri Aurobindo: This teacher who began as a freedom fighter for India, and ultimately founded the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry, is fast becoming my spiritual teacher. While he is no longer living in the body, he left us the gifts of many books. I do not know how one man could write so many incredible books. The last time I visited the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry, I had the privilege of visiting the room where he did his writing. I could feel the incredible energy and as a writer myself, was grateful for this experience. As I read his books I learn, I am transformed, and encouraged to work for a better world. His writings have had a great influence on me as I have written Cosmic Connection: Messages for a Better World. I express great gratitude to my teacher Sri Aurobindo.

The Mother’s Vision: The Mother: A woman who came to be called The Mother, founded the Sri Aurobindo Ashram with Sri Aurobindo. Her books are full of enlightenment, and her words are easy to understand. One can live a better life by just reading a few paragraphs of her books daily. An incredible teacher and inspiration to us all, I encourage you to read The Mother’s Vision. My love pours out to The Mother.

Books are wonderful creatures that are able to change our lives. As we read the words of an author, it is like having an intimate conversation with the writer. The books we read take us to places we might never travel otherwise.

With joy we salute Thy sovereign action

Excerpts from AWAKENING (April 2008)

With Joy We Salute
Silent and unseen as always, but all-powerful, Thy action has made itself felt and, in these souls that seemed to be so closed, a perception of Thy divine light is awake. I knew well that none could invoke Thy presence in vain and if in the sincerity of our hearts we commune with Thee through no matter what organism, body or human collectivity, this organism in spite of its ignorance finds its unconsciousness wholly transformed. But when in one or several elements there is the conscious transformation, when the flame that smoulders under the ashes leaps out suddenly illumining all the being, then with joy we salute Thy sovereign action, testify once more to Thy invincible puissance and can hope that a new possibility of true happiness has been added to the others in mankind.

O Lord, an ardent thanksgiving mounts from me towards Thee expressing the gratitude of this sorrowing humanity which Thou illuminest, transformest and glorifiest and givest to it the peace of Knowledge.
